A person can apply the month before turning age 65 or going on Medicare. If we can certify the applicant before they start on Medicare, we may keep the first month’s premium from coming out of their check. The case can be certified effective the month the client turns 65. IMS/FACS will give an edit saying the person is not yet 65. Submit a Remedy ticket and the Help Desk can take care of that edit.
Example
Mary Ross is applying in January for medical and help with her Part B premium. She turns 65 in February. She has signed up for Medicare that will start in February.
She has to be denied for January since she is neither aged nor on Medicare. She can be certified effective February 1 if she meets all the eligibility criteria before her birthday.
