The household must provide the SSN or proof of application for the newborn at the first review after the child reaches 6 months of age.
Note: The household does not have to provide the Social Security number outside of the Mid-Cert Renewal, Certification Renewal, or application.
Examples:
The Smith household was certified for SNAP effective January 10th. Their daughter Emma was born May 15th. At the time of the Mid-Cert Renewal due in July, the household had not yet received Emma’s social security number. The household will need to provide the social security number at Certification Renewal due the next January.
The Griffith household applied for SNAP effective October 5th. Their son Andy was born earlier that year in February. At the time of the application, Andy had already attained the age of 6 months. Andy’s social security number would have to be provided along with the other household members.
The Cole household was certified for SNAP effective September 15th. Their twin daughters Carrie and Elizabeth were born May 10th. Their social security numbers would need to be provided at the Mid-Cert Renewal for SNAP due April the next year.
Note: For other household members that are not newborns; if they cannot provide a social security number proof of application is required prior to certification for each household member.
