What are Transitional Food Benefits?
Current policy requires staff to separately determine food benefit eligibility when a TANF case closes. For some households, this has resulted in a reduction or termination of food benefits. Transitional Food Benefits was created to support welfare reform goals by providing an additional five (5) months of Food Benefits to certain TANF recipients whose TANF benefits are closing.
The way that TFB works is that it freezes income at the pre-TANF closing amount, minus the TANF grant, or higher for households leaving TANF, TFB, will last up to five months.
TFB is not available to those households that failed or refused to cooperate with certain TANF requirements.
