Compacts of Free Association (COFA) citizens (of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau) who lawfully reside in the United States are now eligible for SNAP. Verification of immigration status of COFA citizens must be completed through the SAVE process.
COFA citizens are not subject to a waiting period and are immediately eligible for benefits if they meet all other SNAP financial and non-financial eligibility requirements.
COFA citizens who applied for SNAP on or after March 9th, 2024; and were previously denied may now reapply to see if they are eligible or may ask for a fair hearing within 90 days of the denial being issued. If the review finds that they were eligible when first applying, they will receive benefits starting from that original application date.
