The following instructions outline the process of closing Child Only TANF for when the child ages out of the program.
These cases will appear on the CWA as 14 (Child’s Age May Affect Benefits). Refer to article CWA: CWA Specifications for additional details.
Case Note for Closure
Case Notes for closure action will need to include:
- When child will age out of program
- Date of closure or removal
1 Child on Case
If the Child Only TANF case has only 1 child on the case, and the child has aged out of the program, then the entire case would need to be closed.
On the Fin. Assistance Tab in Eligibility Notebook:
- Section B – Fin Assistance – Type Action Taken – Closed (6)
- Reason – age requirements not met (49)
- Effective – Enter date of closure
- Adv. Notice Required – NO
Multiple Children on Case
Sometimes there are cases with multiple children on the Child Only TANF case, and only 1 child ages out of the program. In this case, the case remains open, but the child that ages out will be removed from the benefit.
On the Household Tab in Interview Notebook:
- Select the child that has aged out of program
- For Benefit TANF-Temporary Assistance Program (STATUS) – removed from benefit section
- Reason – reached maximum age (TANF)
- Effective Date – Enter date of removal.
