The following instructions are for when an individual is the payee on both a SNAP case and an Aged, Blind, Disabled (ABD) case. A lot of times this occurs when an individual initially has SNAP benefits and then applies for disability and medical. Moving the SNAP benefits to the medical case prevents multiple and unnecessary reviews for the same person.
When is the process needed?
The process is needed to move the SNAP benefits to the ABD medical case for the payee individual. This will occur when the SNAP case is up for a Certification Renewal. For all SNAP applications that are received from CurrentTM, check to see if there are any other cases connected to the individual payee. If an ABD medical case is found for the individual, then the information obtained from application/interview will be used for the SNAP benefits to be put on the ABD case.
Is a NEW Application Needed?
There is not a need to proxy another application if the application for the certification renewal has already been submitted. The instance where you would need to proxy the app for the certification renewal is in the case if the individual’s SNAP case is up for renewal, but they have not submitted the application. A medical application cannot be used for SNAP benefits.
SNAP Closure
The SNAP case closure will occur by denying the application for the certification renewal based on reason 23D (Needs transferred to SSP – disabled category, or 23B (Needs transferred to SSP – blind category, or 23A (Needs transferred to SSP – aged category). It depends on the categorical relationship of the individual. Reason 22 can also be used.
ABD case SNAP Certification
When moving SNAP to ABD case, use the renewal date on the original SNAP case as the application date on the ABD case. The certification date is the 1st of the next effective month. Certify SNAP for reason (08).
BE SURE to NOTIFY CLIENT regarding the changes to the SNAP benefits and that a new SNAP card will need to be ordered for the ABD case.
