340:50-5-26. Drug addiction and/or Alcohol Treatment Facilities
Clients in residential substance abuse treatment must be admitted to the approved facility for a minimum of 30 days to be eligible to receive SNAP benefits.
Defining Approved Facilities
For individuals residing in drug/alcohol treatment facilities to be eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, the facility must be a publicly-operated, community mental health center or private, non-profit organization and must be:
- Approved by The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS); or
- Approved by the USDA/Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), as a SNAP retailer or
- Approved by the Adult and Family Services (AFS) SNAP Unit as a faith-based treatment facility.
The current list of approved facilities is linked here. Treatment Facilities 2026
Now What?
Once it is confirmed this is an approved facility, the client’s eligibility for SNAP will be determined by a Specialized Worker.
The facility appointed officer or authorized representative will coordinate with the Specialized Worker through TEAMS to conduct an interview and determine eligibility.
- The Specialized Worker will manage all aspects of the case until the client is discharged from the facility.
If an application is received from a participant in one of these programs, please contact the AFS SNAP Unit for assignment to a Specialized Worker.
Work Registration and ABAWD
Individuals participating in drug and alcohol treatment are exempt from Work Registration. Meeting this Work Registration exemption is an exception for ABAWD. They will be certified as simplified reporters.
