Companion cases are two or more cases that are connected as they belong to members of the same household. The process for making changes to the cases is streamlined as there are fewer tabs to touch with companion coding.
The EA screen in IMS display companion coding information in fields A49-A64.
- B = Both financial assistance and food stamp companion cases
- F = Food stamp companion case
- M = Medical companion case
- P = Financial assistance companion case
- R = Cross reference only
- X = Case number before computer renumbered – computer –entered only
The following is an example of a SNAP and SSP companion coded case and how each of the EA screens display this information in IMS.
In this example the EA screen for case D000001 indicates that there is a companion case with case H000001. Field A49 displays the case number and Field A51 indicates that it is a food stamp companion case with the code F is shown.
The companion case D000001 is shown on the EA screen for case H000001. Cross reference cases (in this example C000001) are also shown with the code R.
