IMS: UpdatedIMS Transactions: ABWI (ABAWD Tracking System)

  1. If the client has been included in a SNAP benefit, his/her ABAWD status code for that month is displayed. It is the code from section F, in PS-2 block F172, on the date the benefit issued.ABAWD Status Code screen
    Valid ABAWD status codes are:

    • K = Initial ABAWD Not Meeting Work Rule (Countable)
    • W = Initial ABAWD Meeting Work Rule (Not Countable)
    • Y = Regained Eligibility for Three Continuous Months
    • M = Regained Eligibility – Maintaining 20 hours/week Employment (Not Countable)
    • P = Partial month. This code is used when clients apply after the 1st of the month and meets requirements for Y or K months. Computer will automatically code “P” for the partial month.

    Valid ABAWD exemption codes are:

    • 1 = Younger than 18 or 53 years of age and older
    • 2 = Certified physically or mentally unfit for employment or is destitute homeless
    • 4 = Pregnant
    • V = Veterans
    • H = Homeless Person
    • F = Ex-Foster Care Individuals
    • C = Living in a household with minor children
    • E = Exempt Work Registration (System Automatically Enters)

The E code replaces several numerical exemption codes. You may still see these codes on the ABWI screen for prior years.

  2. K/Y MOS (Months)
This field displays the number of months in a 36-month period in which a person has been coded as a K or Y (Countable ABAWD months) and a full month’s benefit was received.ABAWD Tracking System Screen - "K/Y MOS 3" highlighted
  3. CNTDWN (Countdown): This field is a running total of how many months have passed since a client was certified for initial countable ABAWD months – starting with the first month received. The clock starts with the prorated month (P). After the countdown starts, months continue to be counted whether or not the client received a benefit that month. If the person was never coded as “K”, the total number of months will be zero. The count will reset after it has been 36 months since the first “K” month, or if ABWU is used to change the first “K” month code of a 36-month period to a different code. ABAWD months must be tracked across state lines. Use the ABWO Transaction to enter data for a countable ABAWD client’s receipt of SNAP from other states.Refer to article IMS: ABAWD: ABWO Update Out-of-State SNAP Benefit.Refer to article IMS: IMS Transactions: ABWU (ABAWD Tracking System Corrections)ABAWD Tracking System Screen - "CNTDW 4" highlighted
