SNAP: How to Issue a Supplement using FSSR

There is a transaction in IMS that issues appropriate supplements to the case benefits. To access this transaction, type FSSR in IMS and press enter. They can be authorized for the current and two prior months. (If it is outside that timeframe, use the FSLB transaction.)

*You may need to refer to PS2 instructions for guidance on specific blocks.

Before you begin this process, you may want to refer to ECHL and make note of the household information after any change you have made that would have prompted a supplement. This is important as you are unable to refer back to this once you have begun the FSSR screen without losing any progress. The information you specifically may want to take note:  case number, number of household members (adults and children that are countable), any/all income in the home, any expenses that we can claim including shelter/utilities/childcare/child support. Additional information can be found by tabbing down to ECHL line and typing ECH and pressing enter.

FSSR screen in IMS.

  1. Enter the case number for the case you are supplementing.
  2. In the “worker” and “supervisor “ fields, enter your own u number.
  3. In the “type issue” field, type “S”.
  4. In the “for date” field, enter the 1st day of the month the supplement is for. The only time you will enter a date other than the 1st of the month is if the supplement month is the same as the certification month in which case, you would enter the certification date.
  5. Enter appropriate letter in categorical eligibility block ‘CATELIG’: This is to indicate whether the household is categorically eligible for SNAP.
Categorical Elig can only be BBCE (B), No (N), or Traditional (T)
  6. The remaining fields are completed using information as it truly existed for the supplement month.
  7. Press enter when fields are complete to calculate the supplement.
**Check the supplement amount for accuracy.**

If the supplement amount is accurate, press enter a second time to issue the supplement.

Also, check the Benefits Inquiry screen to see if the supplement posted to the EBT card. Refer to article IMS: BN Screen – Benefits Inquiry for additional information.
