Child Care Subsidy: Why Child Care is Important

Providing child care subsidy benefits to eligible families is one of the many ways the agency carries out its mission to assist families lead safer, healthier, more independent and productive lives. Child care subsidy benefits allow families to have a safe and affordable environment for the care of their children while they are working, attending school, or training. In addition to providing work supports for parents, the child care subsidy program is focused on the importance of early childhood education and choosing high quality care. To accomplish this, applicants are given information from their DHS caseworker to include “Look for the Stars When Choosing Child Care” and “Parent’s Guide to Selecting Quality Child Care.” Applicants are also encouraged to use Child Care Locator or Child Care Resource and Referral to assist in choosing a high quality setting.
