Collateral contact – is a verbal confirmation of a household’s circumstances by a person outside the household. The collateral contact may be made either in person or over the phone. Examples of collateral contacts include relatives, neighbors, employers, service agency employees or others. Policy regarding collateral contacts is located at:

- TANF:
- 340:10-10-4. Continued absence of the natural or adoptive parent(s) from the home.
