Child Care Subsidy: SSI and Child Care Coding

The following example outlines how to code a case in which a child care recipient receives SSI income. There are two scenarios to be considered.

The first is if the child that receives SSI is a part of a household in which other children are present and need child care as well.

Example 1:

Mr. and Mrs. Drummond have three pre-school age children, Willis, Kimberly, and Arnold. The whole family receives SNAP on a J case and Arnold has an open D case. The Drummonds apply for child care as their work and school schedules conflict with each other.

The Drummonds decide to put all child care benefits on the J case for all children in the household. Although Arnold has an open D case and is pre-determined eligible to have $0 copay child care; it does not make a difference on the amount of co-pay for the household.

The tabs in the Interview Notebook required for the Child Care application are Case Information, Intake, Household, Income, Child Care, Child Care Service Plan Sub-Tab, Expenses, and Social Services tab.

On the Household Tab of the Eligibility Notebook, Arnold is added to the child care benefit as well as the other children requiring child care.

On the Income Tab of the Eligibility Notebook, code the SSI income on the child that receives it. Any earned or unearned income is also coded for each household member.

Code information regarding any expenses if any in the Expenses Tab.

Information regarding Child Care are entered in the Child Care tab as well as the work/school schedule in the Child Care Service Plan Sub-Tab. The case is processed by selecting the Financial Eligibility Notebook and coding information in the Child Care and Auth. Daycare tabs.

Example 2:

Mr. and Mrs. Fields have three children. Rickey, age 3, has an open D case. His two older twin sisters Emily and Jessica are 16 years of age. Mr. The fields apply for child care for Rickey. The family receives SNAP on a J case.

The child care benefits will be placed on the D case, as Rickey is the only child in the household that child care is being requested for.

On the Household Tab of the Eligibility Notebook, Rickey is added to the child care benefit.
