SNAP: ABAWD: Notice of 3rd K Month

GREAT NEWS! After a recent discussion with our Federal Partners, we no longer have to request verification of ABAWD status in the 3rd K Month. Due to this, our processes are changing!! This will prevent many of our clients from incurring more than 3 countable ABAWD months!

When an ABAWD task in Current alerting that the 3rd K month has been received, and no verification has been provided by the household, an ADM-92 requesting verification of ABAWD eligibility is no longer required. Depending on deadlines, actions can be taken immediately. Our customers are still required to receive the correct closure/removal notice and to receive these notices timely.

If you receive the ABAWD task on or before the negative action deadline, you must take the following steps for the next effective month depending on the household size:

Single-Person Household:

  • Close the SNAP close on reason 80-AWAWD without required work history.
  • Case note the reason for the closure.

Single-Person Household. • Close the SNAP close on reason 80-AWAWD without required work history

Multiple Person Household:

  • On the household tab, update the status to Income/Resources are considered, S/O, and the reason to ABAWD without work history. Enter the effective date as the next effective date.
  • Make a change to the case for the next effective month.
  • Case note the action taken.

Multiple Person Household. • On the household tab, update the status to Income/Resources are considered, S/O, and the reason to ABAWD without work history. Enter the effective date as the next effective date. • Make a change to the case for the next effective month

If the ABAWD Current task is received/worked on after negative action deadline, the case action should be pended in current with a due date after second deadline. After second deadline, the same action to the case should be taken as above depending on the household size. If action is taken late and the client does receive a 4th countable ABAWD month, K month, an email MUST be sent to the AFS SNAP mailbox so that a discretionary exemption can be coded.
